Scams

One scam that I’ve encountered is a text from an unknown number that said something along the lines of “Your Netflix account has been canceled, click the link below to learn more” The purpose of this phishing scam is to get you to click the link that will then steal your information such as passwords, billing details, bank accounts, etc. This was executed to scare people into thinking that their accounts have expired and to make them click a link that would then allow someone to access their accounts. One way that someone could determine if this was a scam or authentic would be to log into their actual Netflix accounts and see if that information is there, or by Googling if Netflix will send you these texts/emails.

  1. I had something similar happen to me. I received an email saying I had an unpaid toll in California. I knew it wasn’t true since a scam since I haven’t been to California in years. I can see how someone might fall for that though.

    1. Yeah it would be harder to tell especially if you have gone their recently, but you could always check on Google to know if the state would send you a text saying that you have unpaid tolls.

  2. Literally didn’t even know this was a thing and now I’m soo glad I do! Especially important now that we’re aware of this kind of stuff and know what to do.

    1. Yes, its so important to know what is going on in the world around us especially in this day of age and knowing what people are trying to get us to do.

  3. Good to know! I get texts like this a lot too— usually something about a package not being delivered or unpaid tolls in New Jersey.
